Publication Timeline

My photo shoot and article were completed months ago … Why hasn’t my feature been published in the magazine yet?

Our printing schedule requires that we complete assignments far in advance, so several months may pass before your feature is published in our magazine.

How do I know what month my feature will be published in?

The month before your feature is scheduled to print, you will receive an important email from Publishing Assistant April Shanne Subiera notifying you of your feature month. The email will also include a link to a short Google form for you to fill out so that we can tag you on social media throughout your feature month.

Questionnaire & Article

I already answered several questions during my meeting with a Relationship Manager. Can I skip those questions when I complete the questionnaire?

Instead of conducting a face-to-face or phone interview, our writers use your questionnaire content to shape and draft your entire story, so it is vital that you answer all the questions. Trust us on this: A thoroughly completed questionnaire full of a lot of details, examples, etc., allows us to discern what is most important to you and makes for a stronger, more engaging article.

Will I be able to review my article before it is published?

Yes. When the writer completes a draft of your story, they will share the draft with you via Google docs and give you access to make suggestions and comment directly on the draft. During this time, we ask that you carefully review the content for accuracy and communicate all your changes within 48 hours of receiving the draft. After the writer makes the requested changes, you will then have the opportunity to approve the final version of your story.

I already submitted my questionnaire to the publishing assistant and want to update, add or remove some content. What should I do?

We realize that you may have completed your questionnaire several months ago and that some of your quick answers (i.,e, career volume, awards, etc.) may need to be updated — you’ll be able to address those minor updates during the review process. If your personal or professional situation has significantly changed since the time you completed the questionnaire, we suggest that you revise and resubmit your questionnaire so that the writer doesn’t have to make extensive content changes during the review process.

Can my team members/partner/spouse/etc. also review the article and provide feedback to the writer before you publish it?

Due to the quick turnaround time needed to meet assignment deadlines, articles typically undergo one — or perhaps two — rounds of revisions, and the process is much more efficient when the writer works directly with you. With that being said, if you want someone else to assist you in reviewing your article, please be respectful of the writer’s time by consolidating all feedback on the google doc and providing it within the 48-hour timeframe.

Why doesn’t my article contain all the information that I included in my questionnaire answers?

Our writers aim to include as much of your questionnaire content as possible, but they also need to ensure that your story is balanced, cohesive and within the required word count. Thus, not every detail from your questionnaire may make its way into your story.

Why didn’t the writer make all the sentence-level edits I suggested during the review process?

To ensure consistency across all content, our magazine has style and voice guidelines that govern specific usage and editing conventions in our articles, so it’s very likely that your edit/suggestion did not conform to our house style.

Is it possible to change something in my article after I have already approved it?

After you approve your article, it goes to our editor for proofreading and then gets submitted for publication, so it’s really important that you take the time to carefully examine your story and communicate changes during the review process. If you have an urgent revision request after this point, please contact Publishing Assistant April Shanne Subiera at aprilshanne.subiera@realproducersmag.com. Given the status of your article, she may be able to accommodate your request but there are no guarantees.

I noticed a mistake in my article after I received the magazine. Can you fix it?

Even though you carefully review your article and make sure the content is accurate, and our writers and editors work hard to ensure that our publication is error-free, sometimes mistakes make their way into print. Unfortunately, we can’t correct mistakes in a published issue, but if you order reprints of your article, please contact us and we will correct your article prior to processing your reprints order.
